There are Three Approaches to Multi Table Play:
1.Conservative Approach - With this approach you play fewer but higher quality
hands than the average player and you avoid all in moves unless youre hand is
HIGHLY likely to win in a showdown
2.Aggressive Approach - With this approach you raise with All Pairs, Any two
face cards, Ace anything, suited connectors as low as 4 5.
Also an aggressive player:
1. Plays alot more pots
2. Steals more pots
3. Is much harder to read
3.Super Aggressive Approach - This type of player only has one goal. To see
all flops as cheap as possible. This player could have absolutey anything when
the flop comes out. These types of players are also very hard to read
These are the basic strategy types you follow when you play multi table internet
tournaments.
SHOWING HANDS:
The one rule to follow when showing hands is only show the hands you think might
put them on tilt or scare them away from future hands. If you want to portray
a tight conservative approach to the game, then maybe only show the other players
your hand when you obviously have the hand won. For example, the other night
on Fortune Poker I was delt pocket Kings. I was heads up and by the river it
was obvious I had the best hand. I bet and the other player folded. I showed
him my hand and he made a comment along the lines of "Well, everyone at
the table knew you had that." So the next time I was heads up with him
I was able to scare him off a pot by using the same bettig strategy I had when
I have pocket Kings. Except this time all I had was ace high!
CONSERVATIVE GAMEPLAN:
Play tight and pick off small pots on a regular basis avoiding huge pots on
a tossup situation. Try to stay even or a little ahead of increasing blinds
and antes and of course try to double up on monster hands. One or two double
ups an hour will keep you afloat.
SUPER AGGRESSIVE GAMEPLAN:
The super aggressive style requires a big stack of chips to work properly so
your first job is to acquire a large stack of chips. You should be very active
from the start of the tournament. Steal lots of pots and start limping in to
see cheap flops when you have weaker cards. Then when you flop a monster hand
thats when you double up. Once you acquire a large stack of chips you will be
able to muscle the table with very little risk to your stack. Making larger
bets to players who are short stacked starts to limit the number of hands they
are willing to risk their entire stack on. However, don't be discouraged if
you play this style if every once in a while you run into pocket kings or aces.
VARYING YOUR STYLE:
N o matter what style you like you cant stick exclusivly to that style. Your
opponents are always watching you trying to figure out what youre doing. This
is especially true if you play an aggressive style and are involved in alot
of pots. Once they have you figured out you may as well have your cards face
up. That's why it's important to vary your style of play and once you think
they have you figured out you can change your play and have them baffled (confused)
again.
PURSUING A BALANCED STRATEGY:
No matter what style you adopt, or whether you decide to develop your own, you'll
have to learn to play a balanced strategy. This simply means you have to learn
to vary both your raises and calls and the amount of them to avoid giving your
opponent a read on your style. You'll have to do this even when a certain bet
is clearly correct. What you sacrifice when you make that slightly incorrect
bet will be recovered later when your opponents have a guess at what you're
really doing, they'll guess wrong.
