Overview

Pokerroom.com offers a good variety of online poker games at a wide range of buy in levels. I personally have played on Pokerroom.com for the last 3 years and have always found there to be good games at all levels I play, with of course the usual bad beats taking place at any level I have played. Pokerroom.com offers real and play money gaming. And also offers some online casino games. However, this review will cover the poker room only. Pokerroom.com has created a wonderful online community for the casual poker player and the semi-professional alike.

The Sign Up:

Pokerroom.com offers a good incentive for real money players at sign up. Pokerroom.com offers a 40% match on all first time deposits up to $200 and also throws in a free ticket to their shark cage tournament for new players. This is generally a $2 buy-in tournament. They require one of the lowest minimum deposits on the internet at only $10. This is a nice safe way to wade into the waters of online poker in my opinion. Pokerroom.com even offers an example on how far your $10 can take you on their site. If you do decide to deposit the minimum, they suggest the following for your initial $10 deposit:

1 ticket free with your first deposit:

1 x $2 Shark Cage FREE (ticket valid for 7 days)

2 multi-table tournaments:

1 x $4,000 Guaranteed™
1 x $1 Lucky Dollar™

1 single-table tournament:

1 x $5.50 single-table tournament

This could potentially lead to a good starting bank roll if you could finish in the money for these tournaments. The $5.50 single table tournament could net you $19.50 alone if you play your cards right and win the tournament. However, the Lucky Dollar and Shark Cage tournaments will be packed with people and only experienced players will finish in the top ten, where most of the money is won.

The Ring Games:

Pokerroom.com offers the following ring games to their members:

- Limit, Pot Limit and No Limit Texas Hold’em
- Limit, Pot Limit and No Limit Omaha
- Limit, Pot Limit and No Limit Omaha High/Low
- 7 Card Stud
- 7 Card Stud High/Low
- 5 Card Draw

You can play these ring games for low limit stakes starting at $0.10 – $0.25 all the way up to $500 - $1,000 stakes games! I personally have never gone above $2 - $4 and find very good games at this level, so I’m sure you could find more competitive games at even higher levels.

The ring games on Pokerroom.com are generally competitive with the occasional shark lurking and more often then not a few fish at each table just learning the game or thinking they know the game better than the professionals. Due to this I find I have to pay attention even more playing at Pokerroom.com so I can eventually find the fish and swim away from the shark!

The Tournaments:

Pokerroom.com also offers a good variety of tournaments at their site. They offer a good amount of free online tournaments, known as free rolls. They also offer Sit and Go tournaments, multi-table tournaments, and special satellite tournaments. NEW: Pokerroom.com now offers its players the option of creating private tournaments! So now you can play with your friends and play in our new private leagues at pokerroom.com!

Pokerroom.com offers three, $500 guaranteed free rolls per day! This means that you pay nothing to enter and could walk away with some good cash depending on the number of players signed up for the tournament. They also offer player point free rolls with higher guaranteed payouts, up to $6000 in prize money for the major player point free rolls. These occur once per week, and also have qualifying tournaments that require less player points to enter.

Sit and Go tournaments are a very popular choice for someone who only has between 1 -2 hours to play some online poker and does not wish to have a large portion of their bankroll at risk each hand. A normal sit and go has 10 people all pay a buy-in fee, and then each player starts with an equal amount of chips. Pokerroom.com offers sit and go tournaments with buy-ins starting at $5 + $0.50, with the payout schedule being 1st place - $25, 2nd place - $15 and 3rd place - $10. The high end games have buy-ins as high as $500 + $25 with the pay out schedule being 1st place - $250, 2nd place - $150, and 3rd place - $100. So as you can see you must gamble more to make more.

Pokerroom.com also offers short handed sit and go tournaments. These tournaments act in the same manner as 10 person sit and go tournaments, but they simply have less people to start with. Pokerroom.com offers short handed sit and go tournaments for 5 people. Again, the buy-ins are the same on both the high and low ends, but the payouts are cut in half because of the smaller amount of people playing.

My opinion: A good player can win several small wager sit and go tournaments relatively quickly. Many new players start here due to the small risk involved so an experienced player can quickly take advantage of them.

Multi-table buy in tournaments are also offered at Pokerroom.com. These tournaments have buy-ins ranging from $5 + $0.50 all the way up to their Grand Tournament buy in which is a $1000 + $0 buy in. These tournaments can have an anywhere from 50 people up to a couple thousand entrants. The payout schedule is acceptable for this tournaments and it is based on a % of the total number of entrants to the tournament.

Special satellite tournaments are also popular on Pokerroom.com. These tournaments have low buy-in requirements so players can try to win their way to the big pay outs rather than just pay the larger entry fee to the main event! Pokerroom.com has several different satellite structures including the World Poker Tour, the U.S. and European Grand Prix and Daily tournaments, and the Big Deal Qualifiers. All of these qualifying schedules can be found on Pokerroom.com’s tournament schedule page. The lowest entries are $6 + $1 tournaments, where the winner is awarded a ticket to the next level of the tournament qualifier.

Other Cool Stuff:

Pokerroom.com also offers other cool stuff that most other poker rooms don’t have. They have created their own online community known as pokah.com. Here pokerroom.com players can create a mini home page for their pokerroom.com accomplishments to be displayed. Players can have a guest book, create private groups of friends and post on the pokah.com forums.

Pokerroom.com has also compiled a library of move clips about poker players that in my opinion are pretty dang funny! Ranging from topics entitled “pick up lines” (one of my favorites) to another movie titled “positions”, which is classic! These movies will make you laugh…..ALOT!

Overall:

Pokerroom.com is a good site and still to this day one of my personal favorites. It has a wide range of poker games and has also created a community where people go even when they are not playing online poker. I would recommend Pokerroom.com to the beginning online poker player or the advanced online poker player. They offer so many tournaments, ring games, and special events it is hard to find another online poker room that offers so much in such a nice sleek package. Whether you use the download version or not, you will not be disappointed with Pokerroom.com.
