The Theory of Poker
It is quite hard to become a winning gambler. If you have the urge to beat
blackjack in a casino
you must know how to count cards as well as dodge the floor managers. Winning
at other casino games is even harder; roulette
for instance, is just based on random events and is (almost) impossible to beat
in the long run. Poker, however, is a different animal. If you become a better
than average Joe you actually have a chance to win (but beware of the
rake).
The best way to learn how to play internet poker is to study the many books that you
can find on the subject. A good book to start with is Davd Sklansky's Theory
of Poker. This is quickly becoming known as a classic in the modern poker era.
David Sklansky, poker player and bettor extraordinaire offers the perfect gift
for the beginning poker player within these pages. A foundation of knowledge
that is as dependable as it is easy to read. Nothing should sail over a potential
reader's head unless they have literally been living in a sealed capsule for
their entire existence. With that being said, it's not written in a patronizing
tone, rather enthusiastically and with an amount of passion that leaves no doubt
that Sklansky really loves writing about poker! Some terminology and wording
may be new to the Frosh; however, with time it begins to make perfect sense.
You'll get it all in this book; several game descriptions, game strategy (including
the art of the bluff), game psychology, etc. If you were to ask any given poker
pro, there's probably an excellent chance they've read this book. Although I
can't speak for anyone personally, I haven't met many poker players who haven't
at least opened this book to peruse its offerings. And in this game you really
have to keep up with the Jones's. Regardless of whether you consider your poker
skills rudimentary or advanced, this book can serve as teacher or as a much
needed review. It's amazing how many things go unnoticed when you learn hands
on, or how many things you forget once you've gotten to where you want to go.
If you are interested in other online
casino games this book can teach you a thing or two. All forms of gambling
are based on beating the probabilities. If you study this book you might even
improve your skills in playing slots.
But probably you will disguise this game and start playing poker.
Bottom line, this book offers the fundamentals of poker. The simple-complexities
that have made this game reach "sport" status. If you're serious about learning
the game, soaking up the knowledge in these pages will help better prepare you
for the practical knowledge of sitting down to a table with friends or online
at a poker room. If you consider it an investment, think of the money making
potential based on this potential knowledge. Someday it will seem like the best
free advice you ever paid for!
