World Series of Poker
Past Main Event Champions
The World Series of Poker has come along way to become the premiere poker
event in the world that it is today. Past champions such as Johnny Moss, Puggy
Pearson and more could not have imagined the extent to which this event would
take over the entire world when they were winning "The Big One"
back in the 1970's. Below
you will find past WSOP Main Event Champions listed and also the complete
World Series of Poker Events Results for each year. The World Series
of Poker Main Event started out as a few of the best poker players in the
world voting on who the best of best was for that year. It has since grown
exponentially in not only the number of players participating, but also in
prize money. The most recent winner, Jamie Gold, took home $12 million for
his efforts to overcome almost 9,000 players in 2006!
The first million dollar winner of the Main Event, Brad Dougherty, didn't
take home al million dollars until 1991. However, using the inflation calculator
Doyle Brunson was the first player to take home over a million in 2006 dollars
in 1977!
